It’s the shoe that dreams of comfort first. And we’re talking in all forms—meaning no laces, no elaborate ribbons and definitely no shoe-horning required. We’re referring to the arguably more stylish cousin of the highly-contested Crocs: the clog. A shoe we counted on for the most part of our pandemic-stricken days; for the ease, practicality and utter effortlessness it offered us when we were slipping in and out of it for our common errands of the day (there had been no reason to leave our abodes otherwise).
Fast forward to today, clogs very much remain as the dominant shoe shape preferred by both stylish celebrities and the street’s fashion-forward. What might have begun as a carved wooden form traditionally worn for protective measure, has since evolved into elevated, runway-worthy versions. Designer houses such as Bottega Veneta, Simon Miller and Chloé have since imbued clogs with their own interpretative takes—be it additions of signature hardware or clean, minimal adaptations of the shoe silhouette. More chic, off-duty versions from Birkenstock have been given the stamp of approval by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Kristen Stewart.

With the spirited revival of a shoe that had once overtaken the sartorial crowd in the late ’70s, there’s definite cause for us to scour the best clogs currently residing in the market. And considering the various renditions out there, it seems high time we consider it a standard shoe staple that could offer us the best of both worlds—style and uncompromising comfort—no matter where we’re headed to.
