It feels like only yesterday that Selena Gomez, Vogue Singapore’s July/August cover star, made her debut on Barney & Friends at the age of 10. Five years later, she entered the Disney universe, starring as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place. While on the TV show, she also headlined hit movies such as Ramona and Beezus.
For her first post-Disney, Gomez surprised audiences by taking on a role in Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, a movie she views as a turning point in her career. “I feel like it’s evolution. You’ve got to push yourself as an actor if you’re going to grow, and that’s what we’re doing, pushing ahead, learning all the time,” said Gomez in an interview with The Guardian in 2013.
Fast forward to 2021, and Gomez is starring in Hulu’s upcoming comedy series Only Murders in the Building alongside legends Steve Martin and Martin Short. She also has her own cooking show, Selena + Chef. But, of course, this is only a glimpse into her many roles in real life: as an actress, singer and entrepreneur. Her trailblazing beauty brand, Rare Beauty, is launching in Singapore come 15 July.
Throughout her years in the public eye, Gomez has brought a stylish flair to the red carpet. Starting with jeans and flirty frocks, she then tried mini dresses on for size, before gravitating towards dramatic floor-length gowns. Today, the 28-year-old continues to make an impact with every appearance, often opting for bold sophisticated ensembles with an edge. Take a stroll through Selena Gomez’s style evolution below.
