It’s the auction of a lifetime: Prada is partnering with prestigious auction house Sotheby’s for Tools of Memory, an online auction to benefit UNESCO’s COVID-19 Global Education Coalition, with several one-of-a-kind items going under the block.
Taking place from 2 to 15 October, the proceeds raised from the auction will go towards UNESCO’s new campaign, Keeping girls in the picture, and their Global Education Coalition’s Gender Flagship, which promotes the continuity of learning even during lockdowns.
To that end, the Italian fashion house is donating 72 unique items from its men and women’s autumn/winter 2020 shows. This includes one-of-a-kind garments, photographic prints of candid moments backstage, invitations, runway décor, and more.
Close collaborators of the house, including architect Rem Koolhaas, photographer Daniel Arnold and model Gigi Hadid, have also contributed to, or feature in, the pieces on auction in their own way. Several never-before-seen designs, such as the pastel blue dress with an embellished beaded fringe neckline below, have never been presented on the runway, and serious collectors stand a chance to own these pieces of fashion history. If you ask us, it’s fashion with a conscience at its best.
