“The Peter Do woman has learned to stand unabashedly in her power, and so have I,” such was the post-collection reflection from Peter Do, which was uploaded onto his eponymous label’s Instagram page earlier today.
In what Do dubs to be his most personal collection to date, Foundation is symbolic in many ways—but mostly in that it was a manifestation of the designer finding his power through garments. In his heartfelt shownotes, he commemorates how far the brand has come: “I’ve spent those years learning who I am as a designer, a friend and a leader. Quite candidly, the balancing act almost broke me and I had to clear the rubble to remember why I began this journey.”
Unlike other collections we’ve seen, which bears blaring change and obvious references, Do’s fall/winter 2022 showing draws from the label’s signature silhouettes—now updated and reformed with renewed sentiments and learnings.
In the form of tailored separates that ranged from oversized coats to elongated draping, Foundation conveyed resilience and grace all at once. In terms of colour, Do stuck to hues of black, white, camel and grey throughout the entire collection. He also cited that the colour palette was “discerningly edited”. His love for suits was blatant: while some were playfully colourblocked for flair, others kept sharp and to the book. In a reveal that carries Do’s vulnerability yet strength all at once, the collection bodes a promising start for what’s to come in the future.
