Elevator pitch: Nuanu Creative City, the growing utopia of art, technology and nature in Bali, might seem a little far out from where your typical itinerary in Bali might look like. 20 minutes by car from Canggu, one might ask where the appeal of the stay lies. And whilst it’s still very much a work in progress, the innovative park is open to travellers seeking out a different kind of Bali experience, brimming with art villages, AI-powered sculptures and a new-age community. And at Oshom Bali, the boutique hotel within the cluster, is where one can find a luxurious sanctuary echoing the design narrative and creative spirit of Nuanu.

The stay: Set against the breathtaking Indian Ocean, black lava sands of Pantai Nyanyi adorn your very own beachfront. A natural glittery wonder that the hotel also peppers throughout the interiors of your room—sheathing the walls in your walk-in closet. Oshom Bali’s nod to nature is purposeful and fashioned thoughtfully through every chair, beam or door. Which extends to the living quarters. At my Ocean Suite, I lapped up the luxury of space. A dedicated mediation area bolstered by huge floor cushions whilst on the other corner of the room, a creative desk stacked with colour pencils should I ever feel inspired to sketch something. The expansive bathroom was also where I found myself lingering and soaking up the ocean view from the bathtub. It also helped that the periodic waves just outside served as a soothing lullaby come bedtime. At Oshom Bali, there’s no television in sight, but it’s a request you can make upon arriving—so as to give guests a choice on whether to spend the day sans city vices.

Other suites also offer a different viewpoint to what each guest might be looking for—whilst the Ocean Suite gave way to light and earthy neutral tones, the Treehouse Hideaway is nestled within a lush mangrove and decked with black and dark hues all around, that too boast the same amenities.

The itinerary: As far as the property goes, the list of things are short and sweet. However, there is then 55 hectares of Nuanu Creative City to explore, just like your very own backyard. Currently, there is much to uncover, with more to come over the next few years. Striking art pieces are dotted across the grounds, one being the two towering Earth Sentinels powered up by ChatGPT and Gemini respectively, programmed to converse with one another. At night they glow in luminous colours, standing as a notable fixture of Nuanu.

Whilst I did get a massage in at Oshom, more wellness plans were on the agenda at Lumeira, a social wellness complex. Here, there are cold plunges, a hot cauldron bath heated up by a burning flame just beneath as well as the world’s largest wood-fired dome sauna. Contrast therapy and sage showers? Done and dusted. Safe to say, it was a rejuvenating few hours that ended with nourishing and delicious bites at the in-house restaurant.

Here is also where Bali’s first multimedia park resides. A walk through the native flora and fauna accompanied with art installations that come to life at night. Or if you’re seeking something grander, The Dome, which boasts Indonesia’s first 360° dome experience. There’s plenty of art and conservation, too—by way of a Magic Garden that’s dedicated to restoring biodiversity. And if you’re keen on visiting some animals, the Alpha Wolf Lodge is where you can get up close and personal with the tame and docile wolves living on the grounds. If that sounds too risky for your liking, a few furry alpacas are just around the corner housed in a sustainable lodge.
