Red carpets may have been put on hold for the foreseeable future, but that hasn’t stopped designers from proposing carpet-ready looks this autumn/winter 2020. Jeremy Scott went all out at Moschino’s Marie Antoinette-inspired show at Milan Fashion Week with a lineup of looks fit for the red carpet.
The collection turned historical European fashion on its head by reimagining Antoinette garments as cosplay costumes. Think Rococo gowns on steroids and truncated Mantua dresses in confectionary shades of powder pink and royal yellow. The Hadid sisters were sent strutting down a chandelier-lined runway in pastel Baroque wigs and showstopping numbers: Gigi in an exaggerated rose-embellished dress, and Bella in a flamingo-pink one with pannier-waists large enough to inhibit her from walking through a door.
As with every Moschino spectacle, the clothes were simultaneously the stars of the show yet besides the point—a compelling attitude for red carpet commentary moving forward. From saccharine florals to rule-bending suiting, we highlight the most theatrical looks that we can’t wait to see on the red carpet—when they resume in full force, anyway.
