10-word show review: Holiday jet set with blazers, floral kaftans and sequinned sarongs.
Designer: Michael Kors
Location: West Village, New York City
The vision: Michael Kors brought the tropics to the West Village in New York City, lining his runway with ferns and broad leaf monsteras, to deliver his signature aesthetic for the jet set elite; that is, ensembles that fused the rigour of sophisticated tailoring with the allure of resort living.
Signature silhouettes: Accompanied by live musicians scattered around the show venue playing acoustic versions of ‘Killing Me Softly’ and ‘Bolero’, top models the likes of Bella Hadid stepped out in a black blazer shouldered over swimwear (look 2); He Cong paraded a sculptural floor-length kaftan in iridescent poppy (look 16); Mica Argañaraz sported a gold sarong wrapped over an unbuttoned black shirt topped off with a white peak-lapel jacket (look 61); and Vittoria Ceretti in a show-stopping red sequin halter neck gown (look 65).
For the people: Inspired by Kors’s belief that “a city street is the ultimate runway,” the models made their final walk on 10th avenue, outside of the show venue, to present the collection in front of 25 students from Kors’s alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Technology.
