Fashion sweethearts, we are officially back on the Met steps. This year came with a brief practically built for drama. The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, Costume Art, explores depictions of the dressed body across The Met’s collection, while the Fashion Is Art dress code gave guests a shiny permission slip to make the carpet feel far more artful.
Making her first Met Gala appearance in 10 years as one of the evening’s co-chairs, Beyoncé arrived in a custom Olivier Rousteing look mapped with a crystal skeleton motif and finished with a feathered cape that, naturally, needed its own entourage. It was a grand return in the most Beyoncé way possible: dramatic and engineered for a timeline takeover. And of course, we already knew Rihanna was not going to disappoint, arriving in couture Maison Margiela by Glenn Martens, finished with a sculptural column silhouette and an Art Deco-style headpiece that no doubt gave the carpet one of its biggest pay-offs of the night.
Emma Chamberlain had one of the more ethereal interpretations in custom Mugler by Miguel Castro Freitas, with a hand-painted gown by Anna Deller-Yee that pulled from her art-filled upbringing and her father’s paintings, adding her own personal touch to the theme. Meanwhile, Anok Yai continued her red carpet hot streak in a hooded black Balenciaga gown inspired by the house’s 1949 archives.
As for red carpet debuts? K-pop darling Jisoo made her first turn on the Met steps in a dazzling pink Dior gown, its garden-scene embroidery finished with floral bouquet details and a matching headpiece. Aespa’s Karina, meanwhile, arrived in custom Prada, with archival embroidery worked into the look alongside a black cape and a tablier neckline inspired by the Hanbok, giving her own debut a distinctly homegrown note.
