Marion Cotillard is not one for multiple piercings. No helix, daith or tragus piercings for her. In fact the Oscar-winning French actress and environmental campaigner has not one hole in her ear. In between making movies and campaigning for Greenpeace, however, she does like to mix a little rock’n’roll into her red carpet looks. This has led to the Ice Cube Capsule, a piercing-free mini high jewellery collection designed by Cotillard and created by Chopard using Fairtrade-certified gold and responsibly sourced diamonds.
The bold and contemporary collection of seven pieces focuses on a curated ear with a mix and match assortment of individual and linked ear cuffs, a stud centring on a substantial princess-cut diamond and a cascade of tumbling diamonds for the other ear. None of the pieces require piercings but attach with a series of tiny clips. The asymmetrical and geometric ice cube-inspired design is also carried into a ring that features a diamond set off-centre across two bands of gold.
Cotillard’s relationship with Chopard stretches back to 2004 when she won the Trophée Chopard for emerging talent at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2013 she became the first actress to step out on the red carpet wearing pieces from the Swiss jeweller’s Green Carpet Collection, one of the early efforts by a major jeweller to further the cause and raise awareness of sustainable luxury. “Chopard has accompanied me since my debut as an actress and I share Caroline Scheufele’s commitment to ethics, so this new collaboration is a great way to further strengthen the ties between us,” says the actress, whose latest project is producing Bigger Than Us, a documentary highlighting the efforts of young activists around the world campaigning for a safer, healthier future.
If you have a fear of needles, not to mention the cash to spend on big diamonds, your chance to curate a curated ear is finally here.
