There’s a new It bag in town, and it’s won the hearts of Blackpink’s Jennie, actress Lee Sung-kyung and more: Loewe’s Balloon bag is now the go-to bag of choice for street style stars and celebrities looking for a stylish, yet functional day bag that would work for their busy schedules.
Helen Mirren was spotted carrying it at the Berlin International Film Festival, Zoe Kravitz slung it on for a day out on the town, and even Tilda Swinton opted for it at the recent Venice Film Festival.
And honestly, what’s not to love about it? The bag has a familiar bucket shape, but is given an extra layer of polish and Bohemian charm with the use of two different leathers: calf leather and soft napa calfskin.
“I wanted to create something very tactile—both structured and soft,” Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe, told British Vogue about the thought process behind the bag. “We came up with the Balloon style, with a rigid round base in calf leather and a smooth napa sac on the inside.”
For autumn/winter 2020, the Balloon bag is given a refresh with new materials, colours and iterations. Exotic leather—python— has been introduced for the new season, bringing an added air of sophistication, while lust-worthy colour combinations—in particular, the tan-and-red combination, and the grey-on-grey combination—caught our eye.
