To this day, Hollywood’s Golden Age remains unrivalled. Looking back, there’s no question as to how Hollywood had begun amassing a global audience since then—and the magnetic pull of the twinkling era was in part due to a number of certain on-screen classics and the stars birthed from them. We’ve seen the undefeated status of one iconic Marilyn Monroe, the ever-elusive memories of Greta Garbo’s screen personalities and the unyielding recognition given to industry titans July Garland, Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn. Then there was leading lady and fashion starlet Audrey Hepburn, most commonly associated with her role as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Should the latter have ignited the nostalgic souls of some of you, then perhaps you’ll remember that silk-organza pink frock Holly wears to her date in the 1961 classic. That same darling Givenchy dress just might be for the taking soon—joining a wealth of other highly-coveted Hollywood memorabilia that will be listed for sale by premier auction house Julien’s Auctions, as part of an exclusive collaboration with Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Imagine over 1,400 pieces of the most memorable items and fashion pieces—from instantly recognisable objects once seen on screen to dreamy wardrobe collectibles once worn or owned by Hollywood screen legends. All of which will also be put up for public viewing over a three-day showcase in the Beverly Hills auction house as part of the ‘Legends: Hollywood and Royalty’ event prior to its listing.
Apart from Hepburn’s cocktail dress, bidders can also expect to see Garbo’s sweeping housecoat from Camille and Taylor’s ruffled shirt from Life with Father amidst more unique props from the gilded sets of sci-fi classics Star Trek and Aliens. Royalists will also have their eyes locked onto three other storied wardrobe pieces, all of which once belonged to the late Princess Diana. Amidst the three, there was the Bruce Oldfield evening number which she wore to the premiere of Hot Shots! in 1991 and a strapless Catherine Walker gown she had worn to more intimate affairs.
Below, Vogue Singapore rounds up the most fascinating and historical fashion pieces which have stood the test of Hollywood fame—all available for online and offline auction at Julien’s Auctions come 6 September.
