As she personally revealed to us, “A bag for me is the key to the look.” Irina Shayk interprets the new model of bags by Furla named Unica, just like the line that inspired them directly from the historical archives of the Italian brand. A journey in the 90s, among the women told by the cinema, cult movies and TV series of the end of the millennium, but also by the minimalism of the response of creatives and architects to the excesses of that era.
Unica Furla: The first biodegradable leather bag
The subtractions of the superfluous, Unica Furla Earth Limited Edition combines the innovations of the present and the future with a completely biodegradable leather thanks to the collaboration with Cyclica and a circular model for the production of the leather. Traceability is the pillar of the collab, with hides that come from European farms destined for the food industry, as well as vegetable tanned with waste water from oil production. Even the tinctures of the same originate from components such as corn, spirulina, camping bark and fern.
In the shots by Koto Bolofo, Irina Shayk manages to express all the contemporary elegance of Unica, celebrating its craftsmanship. “I am very fond of bags as an accessory, although I believe that true luxury is being able to enjoy simple things: being healthy, being with loved ones, enjoying nature, appreciating life,” says Shayk, “Unica is inspired by strong women around the world who are not afraid to push boundaries and succeed, regardless of profession—which I learned while travelling.”
What are the essential items in your bag?
I like to be ready for anything, so in my bag you can literally find anything I might need during the day. I always carry my phone, earphones, lip balm, sunscreen, moisturizer, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, power bank, a bottle of water, my keys and my wallet.
What is that one thing you always forget that you wish you had with you instead?
Some snacks!
What does being unique mean to you?
It means being myself, feeling comfortable in my own skin. Each person is Unique, and truly stands out when they are not afraid to be themselves.
What are your dearest memories of the 90s?
The 90s were a difficult time for my family, but we always stuck together and supported each other. I appreciate the time we all had together, and I think that time has made me a strong and determined person. Unica is a perfect choice for a strong woman who knows what she wants and she is not afraid to be herself, and she also cares about the environment.
What’s your favorite Furla Unica color?
The black one, because it goes with everything. I love the classy lines of the bag and the great details like the metallic closure with the stylized bow logo. But what makes the Unica bag truly such is the concept behind it: it is the first Made in Italy bag with biodegradable leather and organic colours. Each piece is unique and is made with great care and consideration for the environment, which is a concept I fully support.
