When it comes to whimsical storytelling, Hermès does it best. The carré—that adored piece of silk introduced in 1937—remains a hallmark of the brand’s creative voice, now expanded into an entire cosmos of various shades and narrative. At its helm for silk creation are creative directors Cécile Pesce for women’s silk and Christophe Goineau for men’s, whose collaboration with global artists turns each scarf into a visual poem.

The moment you step into the exhibition, you’re guided along a gently winding path that feels like entering the backstage of an imaginative dream. Soon you arrive at a dome, where you recline and look upward as a short film unfurls: the story of two lovers, one drawn outward to adventure, the other anchored in home-comfort, weaving a tender arc back to each other. The imagery mirrors motifs seen on Hermès carrés—equestrian references, free-spirited animals, playful geometry, subtle humour. The effect? An entrancing spell of wonder.

Beyond the dome lies the Silk Gallery, its displays curated like a museum of wearables. Thirty-six scarves drawn from different collections form the gallery’s heart. With each carré framed not as a bestseller but as a story-carrier, visitors are invited to look, linger and imagine. Intimate pods offer further engagement—a guitar-scored story room, a telescope peering into visuals, even a cut-out book revealing the layered craft behind one square.

The entire experience feels like stepping into a different world—one that exists somewhere between art and imagination. Much like the scarves themselves, The Silky Way unfolds as a universe of its own, each carré filled with richness and depth. Another fun little interactive element is a wall lined with cards, each labelled with a different name that corresponds to a scarf in the exhibit. These small details add to the sense that every piece exists in its own little world—together forming the immersive experience that is The Silky Way.
The Hermès The Silky Way exhibition is now open at Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza until 5 November 2025.
