Before any garment, there is a sketch, a painting, an illustration, an idea taking shape on paper. Fashion and art have long been intertwined, moving in quiet conversation with one another and shaping how we see and express ourselves. This Pre-Spring season leans back into self-expression and the inner artist within us all, translated through pieces marked by artful prints, painterly splashes, hand-drawn illustrations, and soft, washed gradients.
With ink and paint splatters throughout the season, these pieces capture a sense of individuality and abstraction, drawing cues from the art of Choppova Lowena, Erdem, Roksanda, Hermès and Prada. Dresses, skirts, scarves and bags are brought to life through hand-drawn illustrations of people, animals and flowers. Patterns also played a key role this season, with Fendi and Dries Van Noten filling dresses and jackets with marks that felt almost accidental, like paint smudges and imperfect polka dots.
Speaking of paint, getting it on garments is something every artist encounters, and Maison Margiela, Kiko Kostadinov, and Acne Studios have embraced it with paint-splattered jackets, jeans, and even shoes. Accessories took a more sculptural turn, with Lizzie Fortunato and Bea Bongiasca layering motifs of animals and flowers into rings and earrings, adding a playful, handcrafted touch.
