The idea of a Dior show carries with it a necessary performance of strength: powerful women strut down the runway—enacting the bold character imbued by the garments they wear. At the very least, that might just be what we can expect from Dior’s spring/summer 2023 presentation—set to unveil itself in Paris at 9pm Singapore time today. And with the luxury house, its cornerstone concepts of exquisite craftsmanship and bouts of softly-imbued elegance are never really very far away either.
After all, Maria Grazia Chiuri is known for combining her romantic tendencies that pay ode to honouring the ateliers: showcasing delicious textiles, intricate embroidery and the savoir-faire of her artisans through her runway. But Chiuri also demonstrates an acute awareness for her hold on the industry as a woman: her fall/winter 2022 show earlier this year was testament enough to that. Titled ‘The Next Era’, it was a glimpse into what the maison might hold for us in the future, as she launched us into a world of surprisingly futuristic ensembles, moving away from the hyper-feminine looks that usually ruled the Dior runway. For her fall 2022 show set in Seoul, Chiuri’s attraction to the female rebel became even clearer: the clothes were boisterous and unexpected, just after female skaters opened the show and imbued a raging mood of defiance and anarchy.
So whilst much of her spring/summer 2023 show still remains very much shrouded in secrecy, it’s clear that there’s always a meaningful destination that Chiuri wishes to transport us to. An exciting scene seems to also be setting itself up in manner of the front row guests that can be expected; from screen darling Anya Taylor-Joy to Blackpink sweetheart Jisoo, we’ll be waiting with bated breath for the curtains on the Dior show to be lifted.
Be amongst the first few to catch the Dior SS23 show here on Tuesday, 27 September, 9PM (SGT).
