For Dior’s spring/summer 2023 showing last year, Kim Jones looked to one of Christian Dior’s core emblems as a point of reference. The show took onlookers through a maze of flowers, hosted in a pink-washed universe of sportswear. Jones’ palette was a nod to nature: muted greens, blues, grays and pinks formed a crescendo of colour and tailoring. The bar jacket was presented in a contemporary sheer make; large trench coats were draped over muted seperates and the prints that adorned each piece were a reinforcement of the show’s bridging of fashion and art.
Spring/summer 2024 brings about Jones’ fifth anniversary at the French maison, and with this, a fitting visit to its archives. In a video preceding the show, actor Felix Mallard is seen going through Dior’s sprawling history and exploring an assortment of jewels and textiles, all of which are referred to as inspiration for the upcoming collection. In another teaser, Jones refers to his spring/summer 2024 showing as “New Look to New Wave”, which might serve as an indicator of what’s to come.
