As all eyes gear towards Paris for another epic fashion season, its first day will see the unveiling of Dior women’s spring/summer 2024 show. And if last season’s show was any indication of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s vision, this upcoming runway will see yet another emboldening exclamation of the power of women.
Tradition met modernity on Dior’s fall/winter 2023 runway. Chiuri reimagined iconic silhouettes from the 1950s with a contemporary vision on femininity and dressing the modern woman. She also delved into the history of Christian Dior, looking at his clothes and the women who wore them—like post-war clients who demonstrated burning resilience: Catherine Dior, the couturiers’ sister and French singer Edith Piaf in particular. Capturing the essence of their tenacity and liberation, the collection embodied the sophisticated sensibility of the house. It was an ode to Dior’s penchant for romance and glamour, with Chiuri presenting sultry silhouettes and artfully wrinkled suits and dresses paired with long black gloves. An air of lightness and liberation ran through the collection as the creative director adopted more relaxed silhouettes in exchange for the define and structure that the house is known for.
As the spring/summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection awaits the spotlight on the runway, its famed ambassadors like Blackpink’s Jisoo, as well as Thai stars Tontawan, Apo Nattawin and Mile Phakphum are also set to be in attendance. A teaser preluding to the collection has already hinted at the primary theme of the collection, featuring anthropologist Michela Zucca unfolding the etymology characterising bold, rebellious women.
Tune in to the livestream and be amongst the first to catch the Dior spring/summer 2024 collection on Tuesday, 26 September at 9pm SGT.
