Maria Grazia Chiuri will be presenting the Dior women’s cruise 2023 collection on 16 June at the Plaza de España in Seville. Located in the southern region of Spain, the venue is an accurate reflection of the maison’s penchant for both the grandiose and historically spectacular.
It is certainly not a stretch to say expectations are high for what’s next on the house’s map. One can look to Dior’s Instagram to assess Chiuri’s inspiration for her latest cruise showing. This time, she referred to the Spanish Romani flamenco performer, Carmen Amaya; a feminist icon known for teaching herself the vibrant, powerful moves of the dance. While it was traditionally reserved for male performers due to its intricate and intense footwork, Amaya turned to perform it in high-waisted trousers—an uncommon yet inspiring sight for other female dancers.
This is not the first time Dior has been inspired by feminist influences. Chiuri unveiled the maison’s stand with feminism during the Dior spring/summer 2017 showing through the now definitive “We should all be feminists” slogan emblazoned on her line of ready-to-wear T-shirts. Afterwards, she continued her momentum via the Dior Talks podcasts which centred around issues of female emancipation and art.
Surely, Chiuri’s magic is definitely one thing to look out for. Be among the first to tune in to the Dior cruise 2023 collection live from Seville, Spain, this Friday, 17 June at 4.15am Singapore time below.
