You might be on the look out for the Simone Rocha Crocs collaboration that just dropped. Prior to Crocs cementing itself as a fashion mainstay, however, it boasted much humbler beginnings. In the early 2000s, Scott Seamans, Lyndon Duke Hanson and George Boedecker started what might be the most controversial shoe of all time. From its beginnings as a boating shoe to its bold debut on the fashion runway, Crocs are still one of the most talked about footwear brands and for good reason. Known for its comfort and quirky design, the shoe’s unique make has captured the hearts of many from Oprah Winfrey to the Kardashians. What started as a design for utility and comfort quickly garnered attention for its controversial appearance, becoming the centre of one of fashion’s most highly debated topics. Whether you love it or love to hate it, you can’t deny that Crocs has made its own mark.
The popularity of Crocs have further skyrocketed with the introduction of Jibbitz—a company that creates whimsical charms. Wearers have since found themselves immersed in a limitless world of customisation and an abundance of accessories. The use of Jibbitz introduced a layer of personalisation where users could express themselves with the accessories of their choice. This started a new era that celebrated Crocs’ penchant for individuality, which was further enhanced by the sharing of these bespoke creations on social media.
Crocs are also no stranger to huge brand and celebrity collaborations. SZA, Justin Bieber and even the Barbie franchise are just a few of the many exciting collaborations that they have done in the past, with the latest one being the dazzling union with fashion designer Simone Rocha. With its unusual yet charming style, clever marketing, celebrity as well as brand collaborations, it is no surprise that Crocs has gained its own cult following in the fashion world, creating its path through innovative style and not forgetting—extreme comfort.
Below, Vogue takes a look at some of Crocs most memorable collaborations to date.
