Elevator pitch
Marina Bay Sands needs no introduction. Since its opening in 2010, the Moshe Safdie-designed integrated resort has become one of Singapore‘s most iconic buildings. With over 2200 five-star rooms and suites, a world-famous cruise ship-inspired sky park, a sprawling luxury shopping mall and a cutting-edge museum, there’s not much the destination doesn’t offer.
This year, the hotel is opening its doors to a slew of transformed rooms and suites—the result of a billion-dollar reinvestment programme—which will bring Marina Bay Sands into a new era of luxury travel. In the reinvigorated rooms, guests can expect exquisite interior design, elevated amenities and thoughtful touches of local culture. There will also be a higher number of suites in total than before, each one at the very height of luxurious hospitality.
Design story
The renovated suites are enclaves of quiet luxury which feel modern and classic all at once. Immaculately decked out in bespoke marble, handcrafted leather and polished gold, an understated navy and taupe colour palette complements the opulent furnishings, lending a sense of serenity. Throughout the sprawling space, hallmarks of Singaporean history and culture show up in elevated design touches—like a bedroom headboard which mimics a Chinese screen in a Peranakan shophouse. Meanwhile, the floor is covered with thick Axminster wool carpet, featuring a motif similar to textiles found along Arab Street.
A special treat comes in the form of an inviting and sculptural cocktail trolley, stocked with an assortment of premium liquors, pre-mixed cocktails—from Marina Bay Sands’s best restaurants, no less—and cocktail garnishes. It conjures the excitement of Singapore’s eclectic cocktail scene, but in the comfort of the suite’s plush living area. Meanwhile, an opulent marble tub takes centrestage in the bathroom, where you’ll find an array of Bulgari body care products. Connected by a sliding door, a walk-in closet houses a thoughtful vanity space fitted with a Hollywood mirror and custom leather furnishings.
The neighbourhood
Guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to dining options in the vicinity. Pick from any one of the celebrity chef-fronted restaurants in The Shoppes, and you’ll be set for the night. We recommend Wakuda—two-Michelin-starred chef Tetsuya Wakuda’s exquisite showcase of Japanese and French culinary fusion—or CUT by Wolfgang Puck for the celebrity chef’s delicious, always-perfect steaks. If you’re looking for a relaxed spot to lounge in for a couple of hours in the afternoon, the elegant Renku Bar and Lounge housed in the lobby offers an elaborate three-tiered afternoon tea worth a try.
Even a full day dedicated to exploring The Shoppes (which you can directly access through an underpass from the hotel lobby) might not be enough. Featuring a staggering variety of fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands, this is easily one of Singapore’s best luxury shopping malls. Here, you’ll find a selection of new and emerging brands—like it-girl-friendly Parisian womenswear label Ba&sh—and inventive offerings from well-known stalwarts, like Louis Vuitton’s gorgeous new artisanal chocolate shop. And when you break for lunch in the midst of your shopping spree, we recommend a stop at Lavo, an Eden-esque Italian restaurant nestled on the rooftop with the most delicious pastas, secondis and desserts you can imagine.
