The 77th Cannes Film Festival has swung into action, and with it the red carpet parade of glamorous gowns and jewellery. This year’s edition is shaping up to be an interesting one. The French town is welcoming its usual clutch of film and cinema heavyweights, and a bevy of fashion influencers and content creators too.
There are already some memorable moments. Meryl Streep receiving her honorary Palme d’Or from a tearful Juliette Binoche; the premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy, which is already winning rave reviews. In the days to come of the festival, Francis Ford Coppola will debut his long-awaited big screen comeback Megalopolis, and Yorgos Lanthimos will premiere Kinds of Kindness starring Emma Stone and Joe Alwyn.
In the meantime, there’s lots of red carpet action to keep up with. Cannes stands out a little from the rest of the Awards season circuit. It’s got a stricter, more formal dress code—and the outfits are more correspondingly elegant. Which is good news if you like a bit of jewellery spotting, because at Cannes you get some of the best.
