Wedding bells are in the air for Britney Spears and fiancé Sam Asghari as the couple announced their engagement yesterday via Instagram. The news broke when Britney Spears appeared in a video flaunting her new engagement ring, posing next to Asghari, with the caption “I can’t f**king believe it” followed by a string of ring emojis and an exclamation heart. Suffice it to say, the proposal was a huge surprise. The ring on the other hand was carefully planned and meticulously designed.
It’s a classical solitaire engagement ring, and it has a beautiful 4-carat round brilliant diamond mounted on a platinum cathedral setting. The centre stone appears to be suspended in the air, just millimetres above the diamond pavé bridge below. Flush set diamonds on the prongs and basket further illuminate the ring while a secret message waits to be revealed. Asghari had the word “Lioness” (his personal nickname for Spears) engraved on the platinum shank as a final sentimental touch.
While oval cut diamonds, rose cut diamonds, and unconventional engagement rings were trending for the good part of 2021, round brilliant stones such as Spears’ are a timeless classic. They also retain the most value and are great investment gemstones.
Asghari met with a number of designers before finally deciding on New York jeweller Forever Diamonds NY. “Every designer I spoke with about the ring was amazing with great ideas, but I just clicked with Roman [Malayev],” Sam said in a statement provided by Forever Diamonds NY. “We really connected on the design and he was as excited as I was to make it special—that’s why I chose him.”
The Iranian personal trainer/actor shared a photo of himself with Spears showing off the ring on his IG account but kept the caption to a minimal by tagging his fiancée and including just a king and queen emoji.
Spears and Asghari’s romance have also inspired Forever Diamonds NY to create a new engagement ring design. Aptly named the Britney, it is fully customisable and has all the unique features of Spears’ ring, but with the added surprise element of having your own special message—or nickname—engraved on the inside of the band.
