London picks up the baton as the marathon of fashion weeks continue. The week commenced with the second editon of Vogue World after its grand debut in New York last year. The cultural extravaganza dominated Theatre Royal Drury Lane with star-studded performances showcasing the best of Brit talent across opera, theatre, film, dance and music. Kate Moss made a grand opening in John Galliano for Maison Margiela, following performances by the likes of FKA Twigs, Stormzy and Annie Lennox. A closing act by the original supermodels and British Vogue’s September issue cover stars Naomi, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista made for a monumental curtain call.
Back on the roster of London Fashion Week, designer Richard Quinn held an illustrious show true to the opulent and dramatic nature of the house. The spring/summer 2024 collection was a tribute to his late father and opened with a poignant ballet performance, accompanied by a live men’s choir. The runway, furnished with fresh flower sculptures, saw models bedecked in sparkling embroidery flanked by delicate lace and ruffles. JW Anderson exhibited a collection for his eponymous label as well, utilising plasticine as a key inspiration behind his collection, prevalent in the exaggerated proportions featured across his works. The designer displayed bomber jackets reimagined, playing with conceptual forms and vibrant colours.
Off the runway, the streets were eminent of fashion week as well. Bond Street in particular, was renamed into Burberry street as part of a global street takeover by the brand, who will move on to Seoul and Shanghai after. The Bond Street station and street itself saw a makeover dressed in knight blue and chalk stencils of the brand’s equestrian symbol splashed across pavements and parks. Equally show-stopping, stylish attendees and city dwellers swarmed the streets with vivid hues of blue and green, layers of tulle and a rhapsody of graphic prints.
