The capital of Denmark has come alive. As the fashion flock gallivant the streets with Copenhagen Fashion Week underway, notable brands like Saks Potts and Henrik Vibskov are due to show their fall/winter 2024 collections. Copenhagen-based brand and It-girl favourite Nicklas Skovgaard opened day one, with a performative showing of surrealism and fantasy. For the Danish designer’s fall/winter 2024 ruwway, models strutted down mimicking everyday life: mirroring attendees by filming the audience with their phones and even eating a banana. Bubble silhouettes continued to be a main fixture for the eponymous brand, while delicious leathers and drop-waist skirts took a fun spin on the trending office siren aesthetic.
But as part of a very special NewTalent scheme of Copenhagen Fashion Week, which supports and promotes emerging Nordic brands to hold its place on the buzzy fashion calendar, cult Scandinavian label Ganni will bow out from this year’s schedule. Despite its absence, this will mean more lesser-known labels will get a chance to shine on the global stage. “The global reach that Copenhagen Fashion Week continues to garner its testament to the role a fashion week must play in expecting positive change from international and Nordic leaders in the fashion industry,” adds CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week Cecilie Thorsmark.
On the streets in the Danish city, layers are abound, only unexpectedly executed by style savants and show attendees. Think skirts over pants and mismatched outerwear. And of course, a cacophony of bright colours that are littered atop prints, accessories and warm separates.
