Certain things are guaranteed when it comes to Hollywood awards ceremonies, pandemic or no pandemic. Among them: major wardrobe moments, tearful acceptance speeches (looking at you, Zendaya), and serious bling. Covid-era events demand diamonds that are visible from a social distance, and the A-list attendees at the 2020 Emmy Awards did not disappoint.
Woman of the night, Zendaya, who became the youngest woman ever and only the second Black woman to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama category, accessorised her two custom looks—one Christopher John Rogers, the other Giorgio Armani Privé—with Bulgari gems, while Unorthodox star Shira Haas added a delicate string of Chanel diamonds to her dress from Virginie Viard’s haute couture spring/summer 2020 collection.
“This year’s Emmys jewellery was as varied as the domestic backdrops of the virtual ceremony,” says Rachel Garrahan, British Vogue’s jewellery and watch director. “Zendaya went for full red-carpet glam with Bulgari, as did Tracee Ellis Ross in vintage Schlumberger Tiffany. Julia Garner was flapper chic in strands of Chanel pearls, while multiple brooches were the main draw of Regina King’s Schiaparelli couture. Billy Porter mixed an edgy Alan Crocetti ear cuff with his Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, and Cynthia Erivo also rocked a curated ear courtesy of Tiffany. As for Sandra Oh’s L-O-V-E pearl necklace by Wilfredo Rosado… well sometimes you’ve just got to spell it out.”
