More than ever, jewels are inextricable from style. As the monumental spring/summer 2026 collections roll out, so too does the look of fashion shift and evolve. We’re taking our cues not just from the top jewellers of the world, but from trends that are emerging on the runways and on celebrities. One look that’s come to define a modern sensibility this year: black jewellery.
Jewels thrive on light, colour and sparkle. Which is why black, the antithesis to these qualities, can be so alluring in its difference. There is a graphic quality to black, matte or polished, that gives them presence.

And while its true that in the past black jewellery and clothing had associations of mourning, those ceased their hold over fashion decades ago when designers like Yohji Yamamoto redefined it with potent strength and romance. Look at the runways of the 2026 collections, and you’ll see too the return of black as one of the season’s key colours.
The same is true of jewels crafted with inky onyx, jet and enamel today. Rather than denoting grief, they embody elegant defiance and a modern look. In Cartier’s hands, sharp geometries of onyx and diamonds; from Brazilian jeweller Fernando Jorge, sensual bio-mechanical blades of ebony; and for Singapore jeweller State Property, glossy black enamel is a signature that infuses its creations with a feel of art deco’s seductive forms.

Here, Vogue’s picks of stylish black jewels to be inspired by.
