The undisputed Queen of Christmas has awoken from her slumber and is descending from on-high to gift everyone with some true holiday cheer. Human embodiment of the spirit of the season, Mariah Carey, has a new holiday special coming exclusively to Apple TV+. With its first trailer released today, the epic holiday extravaganza, called Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, combines enough musical performance, dynamic dancing and groundbreaking animation to make the whole world merry.
When the world is faced with a crisis of cheer—and after the year we’ve had, who can blame us—there’s only one person for the job: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey. Jumping into the fray to save the day, Carey will also get help from a star-studded lineup of friends. With Tiffany Haddish playing a mischievous narrator and Billy Eichner as an elf, the spectacular will co-star incredible names like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, and more. Also expected to make an appearance are Carey’s nine-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe (also known as Roc and Roe).
The special’s soundtrack single is ‘Oh Santa!’ and it will be aptly released only on Apple Music on 4 December. A new music video will see Carey performing with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, with whom she also wrote the song. ‘Oh Santa!’ and the rest of the soundtrack, including a new version of ‘Sleigh Ride,’ will be available to stream on all other platforms as of 11 December.
Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time with more than 200 million albums sold to date and 19 Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles (18 self-penned), more than any solo artist in history. But she’s also famous for her love of Christmas, which she wrote about at length in her recent memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, published in September. “This year,” she says in the trailer for the Special, “we could all use a little magic.”
