The 2022 American Music Awards drew in some of the industry’s biggest stars to the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony—celebrating the year’s best musicians and performances—was hosted by actor Wayne Brady. On the main stage, there were memorable performances from Pink, Dove Cameron, Carrie Underwood and Bebe Rexha. Singer Lionel Richie, a 17-time AMA winner, was honoured with the special Icon Award, whilst Taylor Swift swept up all six awards she was nominated for, including Favourite Female Pop Artist and Favourite Pop Album. With this year’s wins, the pop star is officially the most awarded artist in the history of the AMAs.
Before the ceremony kicked off, however, the red carpet saw celebrities put forward their best (and boldest) ensembles. After all, would it be a true award show without a glitzy red carpet filled with designer looks? It helps that the AMAs have a history of statement looks: Just look back to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s matching 2000s denim, or more recently, Lizzo’s tiny Valentino purse in 2019, or Cardi B’s surreal Schiaparelli face mask worn last year.
This year’s rollout of stars included Tinashe and Dove Cameron, both rocking the red carpet in cool Marc Jacobs ensembles whilst Anitta strutted out in a flirtatious fit from Mugler. Elsewhere, K-pop group TXT made their first-ever AMA appearance in Saint Laurent, channeling the indie sleaze aesthetic that sits akin to their pop punk sound.
