The impact of Aman goes beyond an impeccable property. It begins with the first greeting, the astounding attention to detail unique to the hotel and now with the hospitality brand’s Essentials range, residing in our personal living spaces. With the rise of brand loyalists seeking out a slice of Aman to take home, the brand’s lifestyle arm introduces its latest extension: Aman Essential Skin.
Created and developed in Japan with Kosé, the skincare line comprises five basic products: a milk cleanser, a toner, a serum, a moisturiser and an eye cream. Basically, the necessities in a well-curated skincare routine. Given the nature of the brand and where it’s positioned—mainly in the sunny regions, the main focus of the line battles environmental stressors and UV damage. In the collaboration process with the Japanese cosmetic giant, CEO of Aman Essentials, Kristina Romanova brought forth her years of knowledge from modelling and travelling, enriched with tips from top make-up artists and dermatologists. “We wanted the line to be one of a simple regime so that you can travel with it. Aman loyalists are typically experienced travellers who have a busy lifestyle.”

Tapping on the expertise of Kosé and the place of origin, Romanova also wanted Essential Skin to possess unique qualities intrinsic to Japan. For starters: its ingredients used. Purple rice bran extract, which promotes fibroblast proliferation rate to speed up collagen production, as well as indigo extract (from the plant), renowned for its antioxidant potential. Since the 5th century, indigo has been used as a medicinal herb and favoured by the Samurais, who would wear indigo dyed clothing for its antibacterial effect on wounds and to encourage faster healing. Apart from that, other components featured include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, peptides, hyaluronic acid and a unique blend of potent herbs long touted in Japan for their powerful results.
While acting like a shield against the daily stressors remains to be the key focus, the skincare line also emphasises heavily on hydration—starting with the cleansing milk. A natural requirement, given the nature of shuttling between flights. After use, the skin feels brighter, plumped and moisturised. The products within Essential Skin work together cohesively, but are also individually ample on its own. Romanova shares: “The face cream is great for colder weather but if you’re in a hotter country, just applying the serum is enough. No matter how you use it or in what order, it will really leave your skin hydrated.”

To make the most out of the products that are designed for an at-home routine, Aman presents its own Advanced Facial, which best incorporates the entire line, alongside exfoliation and manual lifting techniques. The 90-minute treatment begins with ultrasonic scrubbing to loosen and remove oil, dirt, and cellular debris from the pores. Aided with electric microcurrent stimulation and the adept massaging techniques to firm and lift the skin, the facial is the ultimate gateway to experience the wonders of the products. Along the way, red and blue light therapy is also introduced before finishing with Aman Nourishing Gold Algae masks, rendering a definitive glow at the end of the session.

But what had I resonated post-session, apart from a rejuvenated reflection? The idea of keeping up with the regime, which Aman urges its guests to take home beyond its four walls. It’s an ethos that applies outside of beauty as Romanova imparts: “Our products have all been about wellness and a holistic lifestyle. It’s about beauty from within. If your lifestyle choices are not consistent or not healthy, no amount of cream would help you. It’s about taking care of your body, mind and soul.”
Aman Essential Skin is available to purchase now online or within Aman Boutiques at the brand’s destinations across the globe.
