Alexa Chung has always championed subtle, understated hair and make-up. Famous for her undone bob—cut in by her longtime hairstylist, George Northwood—she is also synonymous with a simple feline flick and bushy, brushed-up brow. Classic but cool.

But this autumn, Chung is making deep berry lipstick her thing. In a selfie posted on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, the model paired her trademark fluffy brows (she uses an ultra-affordable clear mascara to fix them in place, she recently told Vogue), and alabaster skin with a vampy lip.
Not the easiest shade to pull off, but perfect once mastered, a dark berry lipstick is an excellent look to try in the cooler months. Best worn with minimal make-up—a little mascara and immaculate skin works well—follow Chung’s lead and opt for a diffused, rather than precision-applied finish. Apply your lipstick straight from the bullet, then use a Q-tip to gently soften the edges—strict lines can look too harsh.
And in the same vein as the ever-chic Alexa, why not try an embellished barrette or two in your hair? An easy party season switch up, simply pop in a sparkly accessory for an instant hit of festive cheer.
