It seems like the whole of Hollywood was in attendance at this year’s Vanity Fair Oscars after-party to celebrate the groundbreaking wins of the 95th Academy awards. Stepping onto the signature sapphire blue carpet, the biggest names in the industry dazzled with stunning looks from some of the world’s best designers and jewellers.
Amongst the A-listers who showed up at the glamorous event, Zoe Saldana turned heads in a bold and radical new creation from the Cartier Libre collection. What looks like a sleek sheer crop at first glance is revealed, upon closer inspection, to be a one-of-a-kind work of art that blurs the lines between jewellery and fashion. Beginning with a choker, the flowing Tressage cape twirls around her neck and falls over her shoulders in a stylish drape.

The result of two years of meticulous design and creation, the unique piece is composed of 67,000 yellow gold chainmail links, each one carefully textured and assembled by hand. Specially-developed gold zips and faceted onyx pendants set with diamonds give the cape an elegant edge, while 150 diamonds, set into the cape, add gorgeous sparkle.
“What I was drawn to most is the craftsmanship of this piece and how it plays with volume and dimensions,” Saldana shares, “It’s a wearable piece of art. I’m thrilled to be debuting this one-of-a-kind creation.”
Having previously experimented with watchmaking forms, Cartier Libre has widened its sphere of research to include jewellery and all the maison’s realms of expression. With a new collection each year, the brand constantly pushes creative boundaries and challenges conventions. The Tressage collection, the latest addition to the Cartier Libre collection, is defined by its innovative reinterpretations of gold, volume and the interplay of contrasts—Cartier’s stylistic signatures that stem from the influence of Jeanne Toussaint, the maison‘s first female Creative Director.
