So we’ve entered the month of September, where the slew of entertainment options are diversified across a range of genres—think everything from recently-premiered films to South Korean dramas and style-forward documentaries. By way of the former, two selects that have recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival, El Conde and Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, will also be making their way to the streaming sites come September. With Anderson’s short film especially, expect to find a star-studded turnout within with Dev Patel, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes in the ensemble cast.
This month will also mark the return of one highly-anticipated series: in the form of Netflix’s Sex Education Season 4, a show which has garnered a loyal fan following since its initial release in 2019. The show leaps a few months forward from where the third season left us; Maeve is in America for university whilst Otis and the rest of the Moordale crew are inducted into Cavendish College, a so-called progressive and ‘woke’ school that makes everyone feel a little out of their comfort zone. This particular season will also be the coming-of-age show’s last—as creator Laurie Nunn attempts to round out all of the narratives for our main cast.
Another pick we’re anticipating? The Apple TV+ docuseries bonanza titled The Super Models. Set to follow the four big runway names of the ‘80s—see Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington—the documentary will also trace how they had transformed the model industry back in their heydays.
Between the aforementioned and a few other exciting releases such as K-drama titles A Time Called You and The Worst of Evil, peruse your September watchlist below—which spans across a bevy of streaming platforms from Netflix and Apple TV+ to Prime Video and Disney+.

Sex Education Season 4
We’re returning to school for one final semester with the Moordale crew—only this time, they’ll all be attending Cavendish College instead. And it’s a whole new world for the kids as Cavendish is looking to be every woke Gen Z’s dream: yoga sessions are held on the lawn, queers are openly embraced and accepted and sustainable efforts are abound for the wellness junkies. Whilst Maeve is in America for university, Otis is attempting to fulfil his desires of starting an ethical new sex therapy clinic at school. Of course, no new season comes without fresh faces and there’s plenty of that to go around in Season 4 too.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Wes Anderson certainly isn’t new to the universe of Roald Dahl and with his recent 40-minute stint, it seems a less discovered side of the novelist has been resurfaced with the adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. Crafted like a bedtime story of sorts, this particular one first premiered at Venice Film Festival, and will be hitting Netflix soon—in all of Anderson’s mesmerising cinematographic glory. By way of the auteur’s returning actors we have Ralph Fiennes as Dahl himself, whilst Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the wealthy gambler Henry Sugar, is a new addition to Anderson’s film universe.

The Super Models
In The Super Models, a four-part series is to be expected, as the Apple TV+ docu sets to dive into the formidable careers of four legendary supermodels: Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista. Poised like a time-travel trip back to the ’80s, the series returns to the heydays of the icons and reflects on how they have carved out a name for themselves in the industry, each of them becoming nearly as famous as the brands they modelled for. As for what to expect, perhaps we can look forward to exclusive interviews from not just the quartet, but prestigious designer names and industry leaders as well.
Watch The Super Models on Apple TV+ from 20 September.

El Conde
Nothing’s quite as gripping as a horror tale based on the affairs of real-life people and in Pablo Larraín’s El Conde, perhaps it is hardly surprising that the director is spinning yet another narrative out of Augusto Pinochet’s life. Whilst previous tales have excavated the grief that comes with a life lived under Pinochet’s dictatorship, his newest endeavour sees him borrowing the lens of satire to tell a different story. It’s very much still a Pinochet-centred film, only this time he’s an immortal vampire ready to die after 250 years on Earth.
Watch El Conde on Netflix from 15 September.

The Changeling
Yet another book adaptation makes it to this month’s watchlist, in the vein of The Changeling based on the eponymous novel by Victor LaValle. With it, Apple TV+ seems to be looking to get a head start on Halloween content as Academy Award nominee LaKeith Stanfield stars as Apollo in a riveting triptych of horror, mystery and odyssean undertones. The eight-part episodic narrative follows Apollo, who is thrown into another side of New York City when his beloved wife, Emma (Clark Backo) suddenly goes missing.
Watch The Changeling on Apple TV+ from 8 September.

The Worst of Evil
Set in Seoul in the ’90s, The Worst of Evil is centred around Park Jun-mu (Ji Chang-wook), a rural police officer who’s about to have his life turned upside down amidst growing drug rings and crime rates. A new drug ‘Gangnam Crystal’ has hit town and this time around, Jun-mu has been tasked to take on an undercover role within the gang—in efforts to take it down from the inside. The mystery however lies in his wife’s willingness to also take on the assignment as a fellow police officer who may share a dangerous past with the city’s rising drug lord.
Watch The Worst of Evil on Disney+ from 27 September.

The Wheel of Time Season 2
Adapted from the bestselling fantasy novels with the same name, the second season of The Wheel of Time is set to go further into the series’ expansive universe. Following Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) who’s also recognised as The Dragon Reborn, the show’s return picks up after his self-imposed exile in the city of Cairhien—after his supposed destruction of the Dark One. In terms of other returning cast members, we also have Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred and Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran.
