As August rolls around, the entertainment scene is heating up, with a slate of exciting releases all queued up and ready to go. It seems as though every fan-favourite series is returning this month, and the first on our list is, of course, Season 4 of Emily in Paris. With the cliff-hanger of the last season sending Emily (and all of us) reeling, there is one question on everyone’s minds: Will Emily and Gabriel finally get together? Now that they are both newly single and her feelings for him have been revealed, it seems like a possibility. But with Gabriel also expecting a baby with his ex, there’s no telling what might happen.
Next up: the return of Pachinko. Based on Min Jin Lee’s acclaimed novel of the same name, this gorgeous, sweeping epic chronicles the lives of a Korean family across four generations as they move to Japan before the start of World War II. In its second season, the narrative unfolds in two parallel timelines: Osaka in 1945, where Sunja must navigate dangerous choices to protect her family during World War II, and Tokyo in 1989, where Solomon seeks new beginnings.
As for other shows to watch this August? Consider A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. As one of social media’s most popular titles gets a screen adaptation, Wednesday’s Emma Myers steps into the role of Pip, a high school senior who reexamines a closed case for her final project. For K-drama enthusiasts, also look toward Love Next Door, created by the writer and director behind Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. A frenemies-to-lovers tale filled with light-hearted humour and charm, the series follows Bae Seok-ryu as she tries to turn her life around, only to cross paths with a childhood friend who knows her most embarrassing sides a little too well.
