This March, Vogue Singapore presents our inaugural podcast series, Vogue Uncut, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Hosted by the editors of Vogue Singapore, each episode discusses critical topics and issues that women in Singapore face—from the challenges of egg freezing to the balancing act of motherhood and career—of unfiltered and candid conversations with guests that include renowned healers, creatives, entrepreneurs and innovators.
Hot girl walks. Slow living. Celebrating the small joys. Or as the GenZ set would like to call it? Main character energy. In big, broad terms, it’s about taking charge of your life, and changing your own narrative. This could mean a shift in perspective; as simple as appreciating the mundane and everyday task of brewing a good cup of coffee in the morning. And whilst the optics of it all can be manipulated through TikToks that ‘Romanticise your own life’ (some which might even seem a little cringe at times), the root of main character energy extends way deeper than that. At its core? It’s really about learning to understand and accept yourself despite external judgments—and tapping into your own internal confidence.
In this episode of Vogue Uncut, wellness coach and co-founder of ReDefine Wellness Asia Pooja Arora shares with Vogue Singapore’s associate beauty editor Emily Heng and digital writer Azrin Tan the how-tos of accessing your true self.
What are the inner resources needed to access our true self? Are there tangible steps one can actually take to move closer to nurturing one’s main character energy? And a vital one: how do you prioritise yourself, without putting others around you down? These are just some of the many questions which will surface during our conversation with Arora—who is well-attuned to the issues of emotional trauma and self-development in her day to day. Pay heed, whilst social media might paint main character energy in a romantic light, it’s pertinent to remember that contrary to popular belief, it’s actually a constant (although enlightening) process that requires conscious effort and work. All this to say, you’ll always be a work-in-progress. And that’s okay.
