The Beauty TycoonKaren Lam
Director, Estetica Beauty

As the director of one of Singapore’s largest aesthetic groups, it’s safe to say that Karen Lam is an inimitable guiding force for all entrepreneurs aiming to break into the beauty space. Having taken the reins of her family business in 2016, Lam has since expanded Estetica Group’s burgeoning portfolio and brought it to new heights by branching out from salon services and into science-driven solutions. With revered local labels Ést.lab, Heure and Verdue under her belt, she is deeply passionate about redefining what beauty means in the modern age especially following a tragic kitchen accident that left her with third-degree burns on 20 percent of her body.

The Fashion WorldbuilderBessie Ye
Founder, Rye

There are few style-conscious women in Singapore who have not heard of Rye. Since founding it in 2016, Bessie Ye has weathered the crisis of a pandemic and the notoriously challenging Singapore market for her brand to emerge as a leading contemporary fashion label. Ye and Rye have a sharp sense for what women want today. The brand’s design language spoke to a desire for fashion at a slower pace, with considered, unfussy clothing that wear and feel like the opposite of disposable fast-fashion. Recent expansions into opening its own boutiques (the first was in the trendy Joo Chiat neighbourhood in 2023, and a more expansive space in New Bahru followed in 2024) have given the brand an immersive, physical dimension. With it, Rye and Ye are now expressing and expanding the brand’s worldview in fresh ways—most recently, with an au-courant literary salon event with female writers.

Nathania Ong
The Intrepid PerformerNathania Ong
Actress and Singer

Performance has been in Nathania Ong’s blood since young, when she sang at church as a pre-teen. Now, her on-stage presence lasts long after the curtain has fallen—the true sign of an immaculate professional.

Like most local creatives, Ong understands that the road to stardom is often paved with disappointment. After bouncing between applications and rejections—and a year at Lasalle College of the Arts—she finally attended London’s Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. And the rest is history. The same year she graduated, Ong made her West End debut as Jenna Rolan in Be More Chill. Shortly after, she was cast as Éponine in the historic musical Les Misérables, a role that she recently reprised in the play’s 40th-year anniversary world tour.

The Dauntless AdvocateDr Chen Shiling
Founder and Executive
Director, Happee
Hearts Movement

To discover the work of Dr Chen Shiling is to realise with humility that there are always more voices to be heard. Dr Chen was 17 when she first volunteered with MINDS, coming face-to-face with the medical inequities of adults with intellectual disabilities (IDs). People whose medical needs—because of challenges in communication and expression, among others— were not being met by the broader healthcare system. She quit her job as a doctor at a public hospital to found Happee Hearts Movement in 2014, which advocates for the healthcare needs of this underrepresented group.

After more than a decade knocking on doors and championing the cause to the healthcare community, Dr Chen has reached significant milestones. Happee Hearts Movement was registered as a charity in 2022 and accredited as an Institution of a Public Character (IPC); and in 2023 it opened IDHealth, the first community-based healthcare service for people with ID in Singapore. To date, the IDHealth clinic service has benefited about 500 people with ID and over 1,000 caregivers. This year, there are plans for palliative and dementia care services as well as the development of an ID practitioner course to broaden the cause’s reach.

After stints working at McKinsey & Company and Citigroup, and helming an e-commerce start-up, Chu turned her eye to redefining cross-border, multi-currency platforms. YouTrip was born shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic and was forged in the crucible of its fires, showing the rest of the world that Singapore had what it took to tango on the international financial stage. In addition to her work promoting financial freedom and peace of mind with YouTrip, Chu serves on the board of directors of iFast Corporation Ltd, the management board of the Institute of Systems Science at the National University of Singapore, and the board of governors of YouthTechSG.

Berthier is a shining example of what it looks like when hard work meets talent. When she attended the University of Notre Dame, she won four NCAA Fencing Championship models.
