Summer holidays might have been dampened this year by the dark cloud of COVID-19, but the forecast for next year is looking tropical, according to Donatella Versace. For spring/summer 2021, the Italian house transported us to Versacepolis via livestream from Milan. Supers with surfer-babe hair and starfish dresses sashayed around a faux seabed settlement, carrying accessories that hinted they had enjoyed a day at the beach.
Cowrie shell necklaces sprinkled with gems and sequin starfish earrings glistened next to the wet-look locks of Irina Shayk and Joan Smalls. Adut Akech’s wrists were laden with beaded ocean-floor trinkets that matched her mermaid cocktail dress. A shoal of other models in similar crystal-embellished shell bralettes carried water bottles drowning in ocean motifs, and rucksack harnesses to make all that under-the-sea explorating easy.
