The games are on. The iconic flame—which will see Snoop Dogg as one of its final torchbearers—will soon arrive at its final destination: the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Recent weeks have seen athletes from every corner of the world make their way into the City of Light, to ready themselves for the esteemed international sporting event: the Olympics 2024. It’s even been a pretty fun ride watching them arrive at the Olympic Village, with a burgeoning number of viral TikToks sprouting all over our social media platforms, discussing all manner of subjects from its cardboard beds to the decency of its provided amenities.
With the official start date of the quadrennial event just around the corner, the streets will soon also be filled with enthused fans, who have similarly arrived in town to show support for their favourite teams and athletes. Considering Paris 2024 marks the first time the world’s biggest sporting event is being held in the French capital in 100 years, it’s within reason to harbour hope that it will also bring with it some spectacular sartorial showings—be it from the excitable spectators or its throng of competing athletes. It is Paris, after all, is it not?
And it seems like luck is already on our side. Hidden in the thousands of athletes who are in the city for the Games, are a number of surprisingly recognisable faces to the fashion crowd. Whilst some sports already have a natural affinity with the fashion world by way of their costumes, some of these names have simply cemented their station in the fashion circuit, such as NBA household name LeBron James or the tennis favourite Coco Gauff. Others, such as track star Sha’Carri Richardson have been recognised for adding bold glamour to their competitive gear. New kid on the block, like French basketballer and league player Victor Wembanyama, has also already been making a splash, with recent sightings at the menswear fashion show circuit in Paris. Meanwhile, Japanese climber Nonaka Miho is ever the cool girl, gaining traction all over our FYPs.
