What a statement Rihanna had made on Super Bowl night. Whether it’s about style, femininity, motherhood, music… you name it. But what we also noticed—or rather, couldn’t ignore—was her choice of jewellery for the night. Although it was only to be expected, since Riri always nails her jewellery game.
The second-time mom-to-be flaunted more than her new baby bump onstage, wearing a gorgeous selection of diamond jewellery with an all-red ensemble. Styled by Jahleel Weaver, her ears were festooned with diamond high jewellery earrings from Messika. Pieces include the Unique Illusionnistes mono earring, the Equilibristes diamond clip and Illusionnistes diamond clip worn as mono earrings, the Magnetic Love mono earring, and the Diamond Equalizer earring.
Her look continues with a trio of large diamond brooches, all vintage and sourced from New York-based vintage jewellery specialist, Joseph Saidian & Sons Jewelry. Pinned over the right pocket of her Loewe jumpsuit, the brooches shared the limelight throughout Rihanna’s 13-minute performance.
Works of art in their own right, the pieces exhibited fine craftsmanship typical of great 1950s style jewellery making. Mixed cut diamonds flow with ease along white gold mounts, forming fluid ribbons and elegant curlicues, as well as structured shapes reminiscent of the Art Deco style, accentuated with a single drop-shaped pearl.
Also perfectly on-theme that night was Rihanna’s choice of timepiece, which is all-red and fully encrusted with diamonds. Made by watchmaker to the stars, Jacob & Co., that was is the Brilliant Skeleton Northern Lights and it has a flaming red transparent sapphire crystal dial that reveals its internal mechanism.
The white gold case is fully set with brilliant cut diamonds, worn on a sensuous red alligator leather strap, which was just all kinds of perfect for one of the most definitive style and music icons of our generation.
