The Milanese brand Pomellato is known for its fun-loving approach to fine jewellery. It describes itself as a fashion fine jeweller, completely leaning into the idea of jewels being a part of your wardrobe and collection to enjoy yourself with. The latest from the brand is Pom Pom Dot, a collection of double-sided everyday jewellery designed with lighthearted cheer in mind.
The form these jewels take is based on a button. It’s a recurring motif in Pomellato’s design heritage, and there are in fact gold necklace, ring and bracelet from a 1974 collection with the almost exact style of a bulbous disc laced with a gold ‘thread’.
Think of this ordinary source of inspiration as an invitation to add touches of pleasure and preciousness to the everyday. With Pom Pom Dot, the designs also add the playful feature of being reversible and fully designed and finished on both sides.
There are three variants, each side set with malachite, white mother of pearl or diamonds. The reverse of the malachite and diamond versions is in mother of pearl, while the latter variant features contrasting grey mother of pearl. These stones and materials were picked for the positive forces they’re said to bring: malachite for harmony, peace and hope; diamonds for courage and strength; and mother of pearl for emotional balance, well-being, wisdom and patience.
The discs themselves are a testament to Pomellato’s renown as expert goldsmiths, with a satisfying roundness on its curved surfaces. The threads that run through the centre of the button are crafted from smooth rose gold on one side, and paved with diamonds on the flip side.
Pomellato’s Pom Pom Dot is offered in these variations in three forms, as a pendant necklace, bracelet and earrings.
