Some spaces don’t believe in subtlety. With bold originality, Mondrian Singapore Duxton transforms into a playground of culture and creativity for the very first edition Mondrian Imagines, a new global initiative designed to inspire the community and champion groundbreaking ideas. The theme for this particular iteration? Spice.
Perfectly timed with the nation’s SG60 celebrations, Mondrian Imagines: Spice is a celebration of something that has shaped our Singaporean identity in more ways than one. Spices are the backbone of Singapore—and Asian—cooking, and there’s nothing we pride ourselves more in than our food. But beyond that, spices are also an integral part of our history, once a precious commodity that flowed through our city’s ports, transforming it into a vital hub of global trade.
With Mondrian Imagines: Spice, spice becomes more than an event theme—it offers insight into what the hotel truly stands for. The programme turns Singapore’s history as a crossroads of trade, culture and cuisine into a sensorial experience, as guests are invited to discover the city’s vibrant culture through immersive culinary workshops, cocktail masterclasses and design activations. Italian restaurant Bottega Di Carna elevates its aged beef with a bak kut teh spice rub, as cocktail bar Jungle Ballroom offers a workshop for in-house guests to create delicious tipples with a seven-spice blend.

The unique emphasis placed on the sensorial aspect of this event reinforces the hotel’s position as a hub of artistic expression. “Mondrian Singapore Duxton has grown into a bold cultural catalyst. We’re not just a hotel; we’re a living, breathing space where art, design, cuisine and community intersect.” explains general manager Guillaume Gallas.
Mondrian Singapore is a living canvas, sitting in the heart of Duxton Hill—a neighbourhood steeped in history from its days as a nutmeg plantation. Art takes centre stage here, with the vivid collection featuring works by international names such as Kaws and Tracey Emin, alongside Singaporean creatives Dawn Ng and André Wee. The walls draw curious guests in, serving as invitations to engage with the imaginative qualities of the art pieces.
“We host cultural events, pop-ups, panel talks, and collaborations that reflect Singapore’s creativity in real-time. This community-first mindset adds a rich layer to the guest experience—because when you stay at Mondrian, you’re not just checking into a room, you’re checking into a scene.” Experiences like Jungle Ballroom’s cocktail journeys that explore the blend of seven curated spices and Bottega di Carna’s contemporary spice rubs that elevate the traditional dish, bak kut teh, invite diners to enjoy familiar flavours in unexpected ways.

Mondrian Singapore’s approach to hospitality is layered: luxury takes on a more creative edge and service is always meticulously curated. While restaurants and bars double as cultural hubs, public spaces house a variety of visually striking pieces to encourage guests to linger in the corridors. To top it off, suites balance comfort with artistic design—reinforcing that every stay is meant to engage the senses and the imagination alike.
This attention to local culture extends beyond the walls through local collaborations. The hotel seeks to be both a participant in and a stage for the city’s creative pulse as it joins forces with Singaporean artists, chefs and creators. “Our guests are culturally curious,” Gallas notes. “They’re looking for connection: to place, to people and to purpose. Whether it’s sipping a spiced cocktail at Jungle Ballroom or wandering our art-filled corridors, they want travel to feel meaningful, inspiring and yes, a little indulgent.”

At its heart, Gallas reflects, Mondrian Singapore Duxton tells the story of a city in evolution. “We honour the layers of Singapore’s past—from its spice routes to its shophouses—while amplifying the voices shaping its future. Initiatives like Mondrian Imagines: Spice are extensions of that mission. They allow us to take a single, rich theme and explore it across food, scent, storytelling, and culture—reframing heritage in a way that feels exciting and relevant today,” he muses. “We’re not here to replicate the traditional hotel model; we’re here to reimagine what hospitality can look and feel like in a place as dynamic as Singapore.”
