10-word show review: A vote for authenticity unique to Miu Miu fall/winter 2024

The vision: If you’ve been keeping up with Miu Miu in recent seasons, you’d be well aware that the brand, alongside Prada, has found a home in the hearts of fashion lovers everywhere. As of press time, Prada and Miu Miu remain two of the most desirable luxury fashion labels of the moment, and for good reason. At the heart of Miuccia Prada’s collections lies an acute understanding of exactly who the Miu Miu girl is. And at Miu Miu fall/winter 2024 show at Palais d’Iéna, this was even more apparent. Last season, this woman was one of dichotomy, with her lambskin top handles filled to the brim with artefacts of the day. This season, this duality played out just the same, if not more authentically, thanks to the superb runway casting. Among the models? 70-year-old breakout star and longtime collector, Dr. Qin Huilan from China.
The vibe: With longtime celebrity collaborators like Emma Corrin and Lorde in attendance, the show’s set, awash in a familiar brown, anchored a scene of reflection. Drawing inspiration from the journey of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, Prada looked to draw on the idea of outfits and memories.
Signature silhouettes: Looking at the collection, this narrative played out seamlessly. Playful proportions, shortened sleeves, soft shoes, and rounded silhouettes were sent down the runway as signifiers of youth. Contrasting this was a stricter offering of sharp tailoring, sleek shapes, as well as sensible pieces such as gloves, scarves, and sensual black dresses. Tying this story together was, of course, the casting, which saw model favorites old and new—with Dr. Qin being joined by other street-casted models. The charm of the brand is firmly in tact, as well. We can already spell out the items that are going to be ultra covetable. From the body-skimming leather jackets and floral skirts to shiny brogues and embellished coats, Miu Miu’s reaffirmed that it’s not budging from its top spot.
