If there’s one thing to know about Mika Hashizume—or Mikah (other than his pleasing vocal chops, of course)—it would be his effortless approach to style. “Less is more. Fashion doesn’t need more pieces, it needs more intention,” the artist tells us on the set of his digital cover shoot for the ‘Beguiling’ issue.
Mikah’s current season of introspection—amid the release of his latest trilogy of songs titled Homesick—is just the precursor to what we can expect to see from the singer-songwriter, who is now in the third year of his solo career. But his razor-sharp focus on what’s next for his artistry doesn’t just extend to his music, it’s the fashion world which he wants to explore more deeply too.
It’s hardly surprising, when the Hawaii-born, Shanghai-based artist is also known to be a style savant himself. Beyond just being a familiar face at fashion week, Mikah has also walked for runway shows, like he did for Robert Wun’s homecoming show in Hong Kong last year. Whilst he continues to prove that nothing may ever be too audacious for the fashion chameleon, there’s a completely different appeal to his casual, everyday style. Of loosely-fitted tank tops, tonal ensembles, some streetwear staples and ever so often: a simple piece of jewellery that helps to pull a fit together.
Below, see how to emulate and cop the effortless, everyday aesthetic of our December digital cover star.
