Year by year, the fashion calendar is always packed to the brim. Amongst these are landmark, not-to-be-missed events like the seasonal fashion weeks as well as the star-studded Grammys and Oscars. Merging the spectacle of both is the kingpin of fashion events: the Met Gala.
This year for Met Gala 2024, the dress code was “The Garden of Time”, which is a homage to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion. Decidedly more open-ended than last year’s brief, A-list celebrities each interpreted it in their own way—mostly guided by the idea of flora and fauna as well as pulling from the archives (a big thing this year in award shows and press tours alike thanks to names like Zendaya and Carolina Polachek).
The event saw standout attendees like Taylor Russell and co-chair Jennifer Lopez. Gwendoline Christie stunned in a Maison Margiela look for the books and Alia Bhatt brought tradition and craft to the forefront with a custom Sabyasachi sari that featured precious gemstones.
Then there were the men. Of course, there was quintessential tailoring sported by various attendees, from Tom Ford to Adrien Brody wearing dapper suits in various colours. Other recognisable faces including Jon Batiste and Morgan Spector kept to the theme while keeping it sharp—with floral detailing on brooches to the use of brocade to drive home the theme of the night. Alton Mason and Barry Keoghan took a deep dive into fashion history, emerging with period details for their fits. Bad Bunny donned an outlandish outfit from Maison Margiela, a suit embellished in exposed contrast stitching and an oversized beret to match.
With all of the men showing out, it seems like Met Gala 2024 continues to live within the codes of extravagance and showmanship. Below, Vogue Singapore rounds up the best menswear looks from the unforgettable night.
