Show review in a line: A striking play of juxtaposition and ’80s-inspired prints.
Designer: Nicolas Ghesquière
Location: Cour Carrée du Louvre
The vibe: For spring/summer 2025, Nicolas Ghesquière continued to celebrate his 10th anniversary with the house, by honouring its heritage with an architectural spectacle. A runway staged with over 1,000 trunks set the scene for the highly anticipated show. Held in the luminous glasshouse of the Louvre, the show transported viewers through time, channeling the grandeur of the Renaissance. This historical reference holds a personal connection for Ghesquière, who spent his formative years in a centuries-old château in France’s Loire Valley. The star-studded front row—Cate Blanchett, Zendaya, Lisa, Hoyeon, Jaden Smith, Devon Ross, and Shay Mitchell—witnessed the eclectic fusion of past and present, with the show soundtracked by Jamie xx’s new album In Waves.
The vision: Ghesquière’s collection revisited the Renaissance era, where exaggerated silhouettes and tapered waists ruled. Opening with structured jackets featuring cinched waists and puffed sleeves, the collection juxtaposed historical drama with modish ease. Flowing fabrics met architectural tailoring, with feminine fluidity weaved into the designs. In a nod to the future, a trio of jackets closed the show, featuring atmospheric paintings by French artist Laurent Grasso. His series Studies into the Past reimagines celestial phenomena in a Renaissance style, bringing Ghesquière’s time-traveling vision full circle. The Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2025 collection thrived on contrasts, a graceful marriage of opposing elements—structured yet soft, and fluid yet detailed. Sartorial moments unfolded like a visual dance, while Grasso’s artwork added a layer of mystique, appearing on select pieces that further deepened the Renaissance connection.
What to shop from this collection: The standout bag of this collection is most definitely the new ‘generational’ bag—featuring a softer and more relaxed silhouette compared to the house’s usual designs, reimagined for the modern bag aficionado. The leather heels accented by multiple straps also makes a statement with its audacious design, perfectly complementing the equally loud unstructured jackets with cinched waists and puffed sleeves. Even the day to evening divide was blurred, thanks to lavish embellishments like cabochons adorning loose tops paired with transparent pantaloons, a key trend this season.
