If there’s one thing Longchamp has found a niche in, it’s functional luxury. For its spring/summer 2021 collection, the French luxury house stayed true to its signature with a new addition to its arsenal of well-loved classics—the Brioche bag. Joining the Le Pliage, Roseau and Mailbox, the Brioche bag is artistic director Sophie Delafontaine’s playful take on Parisian style.

With its pillowy quilting (much like its namesake French pastry), the Brioche bag is a decidedly less sculptural than Longchamp’s timeless mainstays. Styled alongside fishnet ensembles that resemble foam fruit nets, Delafontaine’s vision for the season is clear—Parisian style has long retired stereotypical sartorial codes of Breton stripes, berets and red lipstick. For her, Parisian style is encapsulated in the everyday: a trip to the corner store, the farmer’s market, or if you’re toting your Brioche bag, your neighbourhood patisserie.

“I decided to stray from the overly sophisticated style of the classic Parisian woman while creating the new collection. Bold and somewhat offbeat, it embodies the slight irreverence of a woman who rarely takes herself too seriously,” Delafontaine says in a press release. “Like Longchamp, the collection brazenly highlights the virtues of casual and unbridled women’s fashion.”
With four colourways of red, black, ivory and jade, the Brioche bag also comes with an adjustable shoulder strap with a sliding chain—allowing it to be either slung over the shoulder or as an evening clutch. “We wanted to create authentic new items that showcased our expertise,” Delafontaine continues in the collection notes. “Long-lasting products that we can use for years to come and redesign to make them even better.”
The Brioche bag is available at all Longchamp stores from 8 March 2021.
