A New Dawn: 5 students from LaSalle College of the Arts respond to Vogue’s global ‘Creativity’ theme
25 February 2021
Vogue enlists the talent and vision of the next generation of fashion creatives as five students from LaSalle College of the Arts come together to cast local fashion in a new light. Featuring only Singapore fashion labels through an editorial inspired by rebirth and new beginnings, the result is a vantage point into a new age of creativity

“As a young creative given the opportunity to conceptualise a shoot for my first magazine, I wanted to convey a message of an awakening,” says Kevin Tew. “This could be perceived metaphorically and literally where the sun rises on a new dawn, not only for all of us who worked on this project, but for Singapore fashion labels as well.”

“The stories I tell are open to interpretation. I create images that serve as materials for thought. Photojournalists inspire me with their sensibility to absorb a new scene and capture beautiful images spontaneously,” says Dominikus Devon Khusuma. “Through this shoot, I wanted to showcase our collaborative and interdisciplinary approach.”

“Inspired by the culture and traditions of Southeast Asia, I delved into the world of fashion as a stylist with an experimental approach,” says Rafiqin Razali. “I aim to find a middle ground where aesthetics meets personal expression to create compelling visual narratives.”

“On some days, I am a fashion and portraiture photographer. On other days, I bead excessively for Visualjargon, a little handmade accessories brand I started,” says Aetll.” With this shoot, I felt like we were pushing the edges of our comfort zones to create something that would be bigger than a culmination of just ourselves.”

“Working on this shoot was a new experience for me as there were new possibilities of exploration and conceptualisation when it came to bringing our ideas to life,” says Denise Chong.
