We are in the heat of Cannes. Over the past few days, the 79th edition of the esteemed Cannes Film Festival has been unfolding along the French Riviera—and we’ve been dutifully rewarded. The prestige of this starry film festival is second to none, often setting the tone for favourites in the Oscar race to come. With a large number of films scheduled to premiere during its almost two-week run, it means an equally formidable number of A-list industry folk are expected to attend and walk its prestigious carpet. That carpet, as it happens, set a ban in 2025 on ‘naked’ dressing, claiming a need for modesty and propriety at the event.
Still, the stars shone—even more so with the jewels that adorned them. The Cannes red carpet is known to be home to a glittering scene of exquisite jewellery showings, starting with Chopard, a maison that has maintained an ironclad relationship with the festival since 1998. Bella Hadid, now an ambassador of the maison, made an appearance as a Queen of the festival dressed in shimmering Chopard jewels. Demi Moore, as well, certainly made an impact on the opening night of the festival. The jury member turned heads wearing a diamond bib necklace from Chopard’s high jewellery collection set with 226.34 carats of diamonds.
Decadence has followed, with legendary actress Isabelle Huppert descending upon the Croisette with a brilliant story to tell on her arms: an arresting floral cuff centred around a 51 carat Colombian emerald cabochon. Carrying that same fearless, bold spirit next to her? Odessa A’zion, who wore her Chopard jewels in a playful way, draping it in a seemingly disorderly manner across her perfectly tailored Dior suit—a look of fresh, youthful spirit to jewels by this storied house.
In the last few years, the Cannes scene has also seen a distinct uptick in Asian names, who also make a conscious effort to rep their heritage. Take for example Alia Bhatt, who donned a masterfully handcrafted necklace that featured 168.27 carats of rare pink peau d’ange coral, a 5.53-carat Type IIa Golconda diamond, and over 20 carats of diamonds set in white gold from Amrapali Jewels. Rare and sublime gems to wonderfully coordinate with her peach Tamara Ralph gown.
