The office Christmas party is but one of many social obligations during the festive season. While some of us might see it as a confluence of awkward small talk and calculated rationing of snacks in hand, Alessandro Michele has turned it into the setting for Gucci’s gift giving campaign this Christmas.
Continuing in its cinematic endeavour (the label held a 7-day episodic film fest #GucciFest just last month), this campaign comes with a festive video in true Michele fashion. Shot by director, Akinola Davies Jr. alongside Yazoo’s 1982 track, ‘Only You’ as karaoke background music, the video captures the fictional Gucci office party in its full eccentric glory. Picture quintessential corporate office sights that come to life as the clock strikes 5pm: tinsel garlands strewn across clunky photocopiers, grey cubicles and old-school computer monitors, as employees leave behind the humdrum of the 9 to 5 workday.
And of course, what is Christmas without gifts? Gucci’s gift of the season is a twinkling update of the house’s codes: both the GG Marmont 2.0 and classic Gucci Tennis 1977 sneaker can now be found decked out in sequins. Other strong wishlist contenders include the multicoloured sequin bucket bags that make for the perfect sidekick to ring in the new year.
