It’s no secret that accessories are the lifeblood of any luxury fashion house. And at Givenchy, its latest Cut-Out bag is well on its way to becoming the maison’s next crowd favourite, joining the classic Antigona bag. With its distinctive angular shape, the bag bucks the age-old trend of approachable, understated everyday bags—the Cut-Out, au contraire, is out to turn heads.
Since unveiling his debut spring/summer 2021 collection, creative director Matthew M. Williams has made bold shifts at the brand, enlisting the magnetism of A-list faces such as Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Playboi Carti. The Cut-Out bag was aptly unveiled at this very collection, too, speaking to the youthfulness in Williams’ vision of a new Givenchy.
From luxurious croc-effect leather to understated matte finishes, the Cut-Out bag is rendered in a gamut of textures that feel particularly 2021. And what’s a Matthew M. Williams original without hardware? The unisex bag comes embellished with a heavy silver chain, alongside its elongated clasp and crescent shoulder strap.
“To me, fashion expresses a point of view where formality and informality, construction and comfort co-exist. My ethos is about the luxury of infusing clothes with your own personality, not being worn by them,” says Williams. “In each of these portraits, a strong character wears a look that reflects who they are: they’re the ones who bring the clothes to life.”
