The fashion landscape is no stranger to surprises. Every now and then, the scene is met with something new—from directional changes on the executive level, jaw-dropping collaboration announcements or the buzzy news of a fresh celebrity face set to represent one of the luxury maisons. With some of such news, the sartorial realm is bound to be roused, as conversation is steered towards what the change might mean for the rest of the designer world. Up top, a change in creative directorship is inevitably the most palpable—where house codes and signature silhouettes might discover reinterpretation in the hands of a new captain. The most recent of the lot? Peter Do taking the helm at Helmut Lang and Sabato De Sarno’s appointment at Gucci, both of whom showed their debut collections during last year’s spring/summer 2024 season.
In other cases, the fashion-forward will find themselves stirred by happenings closer to the ground—in terms of what they can admire, collect and own in their very own wardrobes. This might include the most covetable of collaborations—each one drawing in their own enthusiasts from various corners of culture. 2023 saw a multitude of celebrity-led collabs such as Dua Lipa x Versace for the La Vacanza collection, and the Skims x Swarovski joint move, where Kim Kardashian demonstrated her fashion prowess.
Amidst the buzz of affairs as of late, it’s inevitable that you might have missed out on some significant drops and announcements over the past few weeks. Not to fret however, for with Vogue Singapore’s roundup, you can consider yourself all caught up. This week, high fashion collaborations ruled the roost. Cue a release date for the highly-anticipated Louis Vuitton x Timberland boots, some new colour options for the playful Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty, and an all-new joint venture between Gentle Monster and Mugler. China’s hold on the industry is no doubt expanding at an exponential rate; with Chanel choosing Hangzhou as the next destination for its Métiers d’Art collection, and Chinese actor Zhang Linghe chosen as Gucci’s latest ambassador.

Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty returns with new colours
Class is in session. Says who? Rihanna, of course. Back with more colourways for the Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty, the latest campaign titled ‘In Session’ comes star-studded with film icon Anjelica Huston and Euphoria star Chloe Cherry lensed as various characters one might expect to meet in a classroom. With this particular comeback, the previously reimagined silhouette—which sees a stacked gum sole and oversized design—gets a classic red and white corduroy update, and a triple-black moment too. “We chose these colours and material very purposefully for back-to-school. The black-on-black corduroy reminds me of my very own childhood, a uniform approved shoe with the twist I always wish I had,” proclaims Riri herself.

Chanel to show its next Métiers d’Art show in Hangzhou
Chanel continues its ongoing efforts to market itself in China. Cue its next Métiers d’Art collection, which is officially set to unveil itself in Hangzhou, China, come 3 December. Known as the Paradise on Earth, the city is home to a variety of historical landmarks—spanning charming pagodas, picturesque temples and the heritage West Lake. Beyond that, it also holds a special connection to Coco Chanel’s iconic Rue Cambon apartment; she had kept a multitude of Coromandel lacquer screens that were originally inspired by the storied city. Following Virginie Viard’s departure, the maison has confirmed that the collection will be designed by the in-house studio team for now.

Gentle Monster teams up with Mugler for its next dynamic collab
Gentle Monster is no stranger to a genius collaboration. So it makes sense that its latest team-up sees the eyewear stalwart join hands with none other than fashion house Mugler. Borrowing from the house’s archives, the Mugler x Gentle Monster pieces—namely Spiral 01 and Spiral 02—are amplified reimaginations of the maison’s geometric eyewear silhouettes. Take Spiral 01 for example, which is a modern exploration of its ‘Fourmis’ design which had been a part of Mugler’s 1997 haute couture collection. Set for release on 18 July, the bold new collaboration will be available both online and in-stores.

Louis Vuitton to release its highly-awaited Louis Vuitton x Timberland collection
Nothing screams workwear like a solid pair of Timberland boots. It stands to reason then, that for its capsule fall/winter 2024 collection dedicated to workwear, Louis Vuitton has teamed up with the legacy-leaving footwear brand for a now highly-awaited collaboration. Coming in hot like an Americana workwear staple, the joint collab will see reinterpretations of the shoewear brand’s signatures like its six-inch work boot and the taller ankle boot variation. Expect details like the materiality of a supple Italian nubuck leather, seam-sealed waterproof construction and elegant monogram embossing of the French maison—all whilst keeping the work boot’s classic rubber lug outsole. Slated for a physical drop on 8 August in-stores, the collection will be pre-launched online from 18 July onwards.
